The House Tour. Standing tall with a compact 250 square foot interior, the thing that sticks with you is the carefully crafted use of space. Design elements are crucial in creating a functional modern cabin.
The kitchen features size appropriate appliances, including a fridge and Cuisinart double induction cooktop with compatible stoneware pan set. The countertop doubles as a kitchen table, with stools to sit and eat, and hinges up to the ceiling for more space when needed. Walls of windows bring in loads of natural light.
Baseboard electric heaters keep the space warm in the winter months, while the Englander wood stove keeps it cozy.
The custom built seating vignette faces both the wood stove and the water view. There are a number of built-in storage compartments and shelves in the daybed lounge area, as well as storage inside the coffee table. The bathroom was built to accommodate both the toilet and a shower in a very small space. The shower unit is a perfect fit for this, giving you a direct overhead shower but also the option of a wand and body spray.
A sturdy ladder leads to the mezzanine sleeping loft with a built in platform that fits a queen size mattress. Thoughtful touches include the plexiglass bedroom bannister, which was customized to preserve the water views while lying in bed, along with strategically placed storage under the platform bed and outlets for charging devices.
The Grounds. A 150 square foot deck extends the living space during the more temperate seasons.
Perfect for sunbathing, lounging, entertaining, grilling and dining al fresco. Or just a front row seat to the nature show - watching the bald eagles soaring overhead or the wake of the beavers' path in the water beyond. Enjoy some late afternoon canoeing and fishing, and then after dinner, move your wine down to the fire pit below to wrap up a perfect evening under a blanket of stars.
While this partially off-grid cabin enjoys modern comforts and amenities - yes, there's electricity, high speed cable internet and hot, running water - the footprint and maintenance are kept small with a few key details. There is no well or septic onsite but rather a 1,500 gallon water tank, an Incinolet incinerator toilet and grey water filter. The house systems otherwise include the standard water pump, water heater and water filtration systems you'd expect to see in a regular home. Note that the lake’s dam needs repair - see https://lakejeff.org/ for the latest details.
The Area. Centrally situated in Jeffersonville, NY, the cabin is within convenient striking distance of key towns, like Livingston Manor, Callicoon and Narrowsburg, as well as hot spots like Callicoon Hills and North Branch Inn. And check out the Hubert A-Frame Instagram for a behind the scenes look at the building process.
A small footprint with a big impression, the Hubert A-Frame takes its cues from Mother Nature. With a color palette that blends into the forest unless you are right up on it, the birch wood interior also blurs seamlessly into the views beyond.
