Perched high on over five private acres, this timeless post and beam lodge is located within the Catskills Park’s "Forever Wild" forest preserve, and is just 110 miles to NYC.
The House Tour. Newly constructed in 2020, the lodge was built on the gently sloping southern face of historic Goff Hill. Contained and cozy, the north-south orientation allows morning light from the east to enter soaring skylights and illuminate the fieldstone fireplace and open plan layout. The dining table bay windows facing west allow for evening sunsets. And the day in between is ripe for adventure.
Interior features include the stainless steel kitchen, a floor to ceiling slate finished bathroom with a walk-in shower, heavy timber carpentry and a wood-swathed interior throughout. There is one full bedroom on the ground floor, and one open lofted bedroom overlooking the living area below.
An additional loft with library ladder access is situated directly across from the bedroom loft. Imagine this flexible space as a work from home area, a fitness/yoga room, or adventure gear storage. This loft can be converted to a third bedroom with town approval.
This Catskills cabin in the woods features an energy efficient design with compact construction. It was built to represent a new generation of petroleum-free homes that boast a tiny carbon footprint. Ecologically advanced, this cabin relies on electricity sourced from local solar farms. And if you want to dive deep, the cast iron Harman Absolute43 heating technology is revered for being one of the most advanced high efficiency pellet stoves on the market.
The Grounds. A heavy timber front porch area blends into extensive artisanal stonework. Renowned herbalist Elizabeth Neves led the native flower garden and permaculture landscape design surrounding the cabin, which leads the way down to a crackling fire pit.
The back patio is for post-hike outdoor showers, grilling, dining and balmy summer sunsets.
Venture into the acreage to find the historic stone footprint of an 1800s farmhouse and the stone wall that traverses the landscape.
The Area. The property is surrounded by forest and river, numerous fishing spots, swimming holes and hiking trails. It's the perfect base camp for all your outdoor adventures, while being just minutes from foodie markets, restaurants, breweries, wine shops, trendy home goods and fashion forward shops, even a pilates studio. Just two hours from the city, this location is ideal as a weekend getaway, co-primary home or full time residence. Just 10 minutes to Livingston Manor.
With an emphasis on preserving a wonderfully wild landscape, the owners of Debruce Lodge tapped award winning local architect Jacqueline Horton to design their weekend home.
